This FPS X-RING seal is an upgrade component designed to replace traditional O-rings on the piston heads of airsoft replicas. The main difference is the shape:
- O-ring: Circular section.
- X-Ring: Quad-lobe section (four lobes).
This particular shape offers several advantages:
- Superior sealing: The quad-lobe section ensures better pressure distribution and an optimized sealing effect compared to O-rings.
- Less wear: X-Rings require less radial pre-compression than O-rings, which results in lower contact pressure and, consequently, less wear over time.
- Lubricant reservoir: The space between the lobes of the quad-lobe section can retain a small amount of lubricant, further improving sealing and reducing friction.
- Elimination of problems related to the mold closing line: In O-rings, the mold closing line can represent a weak point. In X-Rings, this line is located in the groove between the two lips, eliminating potential sealing problems.
