"Grid Fleece" Thermal Technology:
The secret of this under-helmet beanie lies in its technical fabric. Unlike classic flat fleece that tends to cause sweating, the checkered (waffle/grid) structure creates small air channels. The raised squares trap body heat keeping you warm, while the thinner grooves between the squares allow sweat and excess heat to evaporate quickly outwards. The result is perfect thermoregulation even during the most strenuous patrols in the middle of winter.
Tactical Design: Velcro and Secret Pocket:
Defcon 5 has enriched this beanie with unique operational details. A soft Velcro (loop) panel is sewn on the front, ideal for applying unit patches, flags or reflective/IR (Infrared) markers. On the nape, however, is hidden a small storage pocket: a very useful and discreet space to always have small accessories of vital importance at hand without having to rummage through your tactical gear.
Helmet Compatibility and NATO Standard:
Weighing only 40 grams and thanks to its snug profile, this beanie is specifically designed as an under-helmet beanie. It fits perfectly under ballistic helmets or bump helmets without creating annoying thicknesses that would alter the fit of the internal pads. As proof of its build quality, the garment (in OD Green color) is cataloged with NUC / NSN (NATO Stock Number), confirming its suitability for official military supplies.
What to put in the back pocket? That little pocket on the nape is a tactical stroke of genius. It's the perfect place to slip in a spare CR2032 battery for your Red Dot (so if it runs out in the middle of the woods you literally have it "on your head"), a pair of foam earplugs for when you enter the shooting range, or a well-folded emergency banknote. Obviously avoid hard or pointed objects that could bother you by resting your head!
The importance of grid fleece: If you have always used wool or heavy fleece beanies, you will notice the difference at the first sprint. "Grid fleece" was born for dynamic, rigid climates: it keeps you warm when you are standing still in ambush, but it doesn't make your head boil when you run under equipment. It is the same principle as the famous "Level 2" of the US Army.
Washing (No softener!): As with all thermal garments in microfleece and technical fabrics, the rule is ironclad: machine wash at low temperatures (30 degrees) and absolutely no fabric softener! Fabric softener occludes the tiny transpiration channels between the squares of the fleece, preventing sweat from evaporating. Wash it only with normal detergent and it will air dry in an instant.
