The HEXID System (Tactical Visual Identification):
When you're in the middle of a firefight and reach into your tactical pouch, knowing exactly which magazine you're pulling out makes all the difference. HEXMAG magazines are famous for their hexagonal design, but the real genius is the HEXID system. By replacing the classic black button on the baseplate with these colored hexagons, you create your own custom color code. Many operators use this system to distinguish magazines with standard BBs from those with heavier BBs (for designated marksman) or with tracer BBs for night games.
Custom Aesthetics and Empty Control (Colored Follower):
The kit is not limited to the lower baseplate. Inside the package you will also find 4 colored Followers (the BB pusher elevators that sit on top of the spring). Having a brightly colored follower matching the baseplate gives you a huge advantage: by peeking into the magazine well or looking inside the bolt (if the replica allows it), you will immediately see the colored piece sticking out, instantly understanding that the magazine is completely empty, without necessarily having to dry-fire and reveal your position.
Setup Organization (How Pros Use HEXID): If you play long Mil-Sim tournaments or night games, this kit is gold. A classic setup for the most experienced players involves using magazines with the black hexagon for normal 0.25g BBs for standard engagements, and keeping 1 or 2 magazines modified with the hexagon of your favorite color loaded with tracer BBs (to illuminate a target for the team) or with heavy 0.30g BBs for targeted precision shots in the dense woods. No confusion, you will always know what you are about to shoot!
Watch Out for the Spring (Disassembly Phase): Changing these parts is very easy, but be careful. To open the baseplate, press the original black hexagon with the tip of a pen and slide the baseplate. Keep your thumb on the opening! If you don't, the powerful main spring of the magazine will shoot out in your face or across the room, and you could lose the original parts.
What is the Follower? The "follower" is that small piece of shaped plastic that is pushed upwards by the spring to make the BBs rise. By replacing it with this one supplied, you will have the advantage of immediately noticing when the magazine is empty by looking at the upper lips. A tactical refinement of the highest level.
