THE MEANING OF THE FLAG
The design reproduces the terrifying flag of the pirate Blackbeard, a powerful tool of psychological warfare. The skeleton (or devil) toasting to death holds a hourglass in one hand, symbolizing the time that is about to expire, and in the other a spear that pierces a bleeding heart. The message was clear and brutal: "surrender immediately, or a violent death and no mercy awaits you" (no quarter).
