Özkursan Power and Convenience:
In the world of blank firing guns, Turkish-made ammunition is famous for its acoustic "overpowering". Özkursan is one of the leaders in this market, offering robust cartridges at an extremely competitive price. The brass casings feature the characteristic flange (the protruding base indicated by the letter "R" for Rimmed), essential for fitting and securely holding the rounds inside the drum of your revolver.
The Cup Closure Exception:
Usually, revolver rounds have a star-crimped tip. Özkursan, however, has chosen to use the "cup" closure (the classic green plastic disc) even for the .380 R caliber. This construction choice allows for perfectly sealing the powder and allowing it to reach a higher pressure peak before the plastic breaks. The practical result? An extremely dry, violent "bang" and a striking scenic flash that has nothing to envy from larger calibers.
WARNING - Revolver Only: As we said before, don't be fooled! Even though they have the green cup similar to rounds for semi-automatics, these rounds have the "collar" at the base (they are flanged). This means that if you try to put them in the magazine of a Glock or Beretta style pistol, they will get stuck immediately. They are only made to be inserted into the holes in the drum of revolvers (e.g. Python, Magnum replicas, etc.).
The Mystery of 9x18 vs 9x17: On the Özkursan box you might read "9x18 380R", while often in Italy this blank caliber is indicated as 9x17. Don't worry, it's not a purchase error! The commercial names of blank firing guns often vary from nation to nation. The fundamental abbreviation that guarantees compatibility is .380 R (Rimmed). They will fit perfectly in the drum of your 380 caliber revolver!
Metal brush in hand! The cup closure in a revolver makes a great bang, but it has a "defect": the burnt and melted green plastic will tend to stick to the inner walls of the drum and the forcing cone of the barrel, combined with the classic black powder residues. Arm yourself with a good brush with bronze or brass bristles and a solvent spray, and clean the drum at the end of the game, otherwise the next rounds will have difficulty entering!
